Abstract
Learning Outcomes
The aim of this case study is to explore ethical, strategic, and operational challenges faced by a management consultancy firm when engaging with clients, particularly in delicate and high-stakes scenarios such as employee layoffs. Students will gain insights into how consulting firms navigate ethical dilemmas, structure service engagements, and uphold their mission and values while maintaining business viability.
Case Synopsis
On a chilly Monday evening, Moses Mwariri (Moses), a Senior and Managing Partner of For God and Country (FGC) Limited, a firm of management consultants was pondering over APC Services Limited., a client who had approached FGC for a service. The service entailed support by FGC to the client during a lay off process involving 100 out of the 720 staff members in the organisation. The client wanted FGC to come in the following week and talk to the staff members for 2 hours as they leave and as they were being issued termination letters. The FGC partners were left wondering how to respond to the client given the rather delicate process they were being requested to support.
