Abstract

Learning outcomes

This case study explores the role of executive coaching as a leadership development tool and its impact on organizational performance. It aims to help students understand how coaching enhances goal setting, accountability, and decision-making among executives. Students will analyze the benefits and challenges of embedding a coaching culture within organizations and assess strategic approaches to its implementation. Additionally, the case highlights emerging trends in executive coaching and its alignment with business strategy.

Case Synopsis

Coaching has gained traction both as a leadership development tool and an organizational performance enabler. More and more organizations are exposing their leaders to Executive Coaching to help them navigate the complex leadership environment, set goals and maintain accountability to executing organizational strategies. A more recent and even more novel concept is where organizations opt to both adopt and embed a coaching culture across the organizations. This case presents the relatively new realities of both coaching as a leadership tool and idea of coaching culture.

Complexity/ Academic level

This case is directed at teaching in both open and customized programs on Coaching, which are already a feature of the Executive Education programs. Since many of the organizations represented in the coaching programs are confronting the issue of the creation of a coaching culture, this case promises to provoke intense discussion and provide a vehicle for deep insights on the matters at hand. The case can also be used for the purpose of Masters Programs touching executives at various levels (such as MBA, MBA in Healthcare Management).
