Dr Kamau Wairuri is a policy-oriented scholar of African politics and the political economy of development in Africa. His research has focused on the politics of policymaking with a particular focus on security, justice and social order. He has published some of his work in respected peer-reviewed academic journals such as African Affairs, Africa, South Africa Crime Quarterly, Policing & Society as well as in various academic books including the Routledge Handbook of the Horn of Africa. Presently, he leads the Institute of Public Policy and Governance (IPPG) at the Strathmore University Business School (Nairobi, Kenya). He is responsible for curriculum development and also delivers classroom teaching on topics including the policy process, politics of policy making and evidence-based policy making. He is also a Lecturer in Criminology at Edinburgh Napier University (Edinburgh, United Kingdom) where he teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students on policing and transnational crimes. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in the UK. Previously, he taught on various modules on Politics and development in Africa at the University of Edinburgh. He has also delivered Guest Lectures, Seminars and Talks at various universities including the University of Oxford (UK), the University of Cambridge and the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. Kamau has also written for popular audiences in Kenyan newspapers (Daily Nation, The Standard and The East African) and respected analytical blogs such as African Arguments, The Elephant and The Conversation Africa. He is the host of The Kenyanist, a podcast that explores the social and political issues that Kenyans face. He holds a PhD in African Studies from the University of Edinburgh, an MSc in African Studies from the University of Oxford and a Bachelor of Arts degree (Political Science and Sociology) from the University of Nairobi. He is a member of several professional bodies including the British Institute of Eastern Africa (BIEA), the African Studies Association (UK) and the Development Studies Association (UK).
